The cGAS-STING Signaling Cascade. dsDNA (introduced by viral or extracellular origins) binds to cGAS catalyzing the synthesis of cGAMP. cGAMP upon binding ot STING transports to the Golgi where TBK1 transphosphorylation occurs. Phosphorylated TBK1 can then phosphorylate IRF3 inducing the nuclear transcription of IFN 1 genes or can activate IKK, inducing NF-kB mediated cytokine synthesis.
